I met Dwayne, a veteran of 54 from Denver, CO, nine months ago. He was recovering from being in the Five Points Correctional Facility for selling crack and cocaine some years before. That time in prison gave him a lot of time to sit back and think while writing his manuscripts. After that, he was in the homeless experience for 3 years by then and collaborating in Volunteers of America NGO to feel part of a cause.
Last Wednesday we met again for a great reason, to help him to move all his stuff from Crossroads Center from the Salvation Army, one of the shelters for homeless people in Denver, to his new apartment as a successful result of a program by Veterans Administration.
His goal now is to find a job and be able to publish his own manuscripts. Not just his writes but also the writes of all the prisoners of US. To help them trust in a better future.
“There are a lot of messages from them to be explained that I would like to tell and stay connected with them because that is so much part of his life” – Dwayne
He is also so excited to recover the contact with his son and daughter (15 and 16 years old).
